Day two of the Best in the West Rib Cook Off has wrapped up for the night, bringing some of the best BBQ from across the country to Sparks.
Many people showed up to enjoy the tasty food and good entertainment.
Folks we spoke with told us you can't go wrong with ribs, because they're all so tasty in their own way.
Branson Poole, an event attendee, told us, "I was seeing the line and the signs, so some of the, I mean, I don't follow too closely, but I know there are some banners, and a lot of these are some of the best in the U.S. I was like, can't go wrong with any of them. So they're all great."
Many people say the best way to try a little bit of everything is by taking advantage of the smaller portions that are offered. So you can try something from each tent that catches your eye.
Camron Jones, another attendee we spoke with, said, "I'm normally one of those that will go to every tent, and I'll try and get the smallest thing from each tent. So I'm not spending an arm and a leg, and I can also try everything from each tent."
We also spoke with vendors that say they're grateful to be a part of such a big event for our community.
They say although they're not adding to the list of ribs people can try, they're happy to be offering another great option for people looking to try something new.
Yajaira Villalobos, owner of Pink Sugar Coffee, told us, "One of the Nugget folks actually reached out to us, and they wanted to have more of a coffee for everyone kind of here in the mornings, and obviously the vendors are here, so there's nothing around and I think also in the afternoon, a lot of people like to pick up an afternoon coffee."
Other vendors told us how getting to hear what folks love most about their food is the reason they continue to work so hard each year during this event.
John Bigalk, Pit Master and owner of Just North of Memphis BBQ, said, "I just talked to the gentleman who drove all the way over from Oakland just for Christy's bread, so we want everybody to come out and get some ribs, some bread pudding, and don't wait."
They say regardless of whether you're an attendee or a vendor, people who continue to show up year after year are who make this such a great event each time.
Bigalk told us, "The Nugget put on a great event, the City of Sparks, all of those things. It takes so much work and planning, but ultimately, the thousands and thousands and hundreds of thousands of people, as you know, come out to the event, and this year, we couldn't be more blessed with the weather."
