Everyday necessities like groceries and gas are costing more and more. That’s true not only for individuals but for non-profit organizations like the Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) as well.
For years, FBNN has said $1 donated pays for three meals. Now, it says rising costs have reduced that number to two.
“The truth is that food banks across the country are facing higher food costs, definitely higher fuel costs, higher costs all the way around,” said Jocelyn Lantrip, the Director of Marketing for FBNN. “This is affecting that meal claim and we are no exception.”
While there has been a dramatic spike in operation costs this year, every year is generally a little bit more expensive than the last. Right now, FBNN has no plans to cut down on the help it’s able to offer the community, but it is something being monitoring as time goes on.
FBNN asks that the community continues to show up in whatever way it can, whether that be time volunteered, or donations of money or food.
“Even with this change, we're still able to provide food right now for 143,000 people every single month,” said Lantrip. “We're very proud of that. We're very careful with the money. And we're proud of the impact that we bring to the community with that money.”
