Our 2 News Nevada crew checked out the progress today as competitors begin to set up for the 2025 Best in the West Rib Cook-Off at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks.
Crews and pitmasters were already getting their areas ready for the almost week-long full of barbecue, live entertainment, and competitive cooking.
Visitors of all kinds can enjoy the festival, from watching 24 teams compete in categories like Best Ribs and Best Sauce, to sampling barbecue from fan-favorite pitmasters.
Last year’s top five teams included Blazin' Bronco BBQ, Battle Born Smokers, Back Forty Texas BBQ, Texas Outlaw BBQ, and Rasta Joe's BBQ.
The 2024 champions were Blazin Bronco BBQ in first place and Battle Born Smokers in second.
“Whether you're craving sweet, smoky, spicy, or fall-off-the-bone tender, these pitmasters are bringing their A-game to win the judges’ praise and your taste buds,” organizers said.
For visitors looking for a more exclusive experience, the Rib Village VIP area offers shaded seating, an all-you-can-eat rib buffet, unlimited beverages, and access to live entertainment.

The festival runs from August 27 through September 1, with hours from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, and 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Labor Day Monday.
