There's nothing better than a lemonade stand on a hot summer day, which is what inspired the Food Bank of Northern Nevada's newest fundraiser. It’s called Squeeze Out Hunger.
Families, especially those with younger children, across northern Nevada are encouraged to host their own lemonade stands to raise money for the Food Bank.
A five-year-old named Evie hosted the kickoff event on Tuesday.
“They can see that helping each other, it's really beneficial. And learning leadership skills and helping instead of being behind the screen or stuck inside. Get out, enjoy the weather, be with your family and, you know, give back to your community,” said Julie Colon, Evie’s mom. Colon is also a Program Coordinator at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Each dollar raised funds three meals. Evie was hoping to reach 150 meals on Tuesday by selling 50 cups of lemonade, and then continuing her fundraiser throughout the summer to raise even more.
“It really means a lot for kids to give back in this way and get involved, because it's a lifelong habit of helping and being involved in their community and volunteering,” said the Marketing Director of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Jocelyn Lantrip.
The fundraiser lasts through August 2, and folks can get involved at any time by signing up online here if holding an in-person stand doesn't quite work out.
