More changes could be coming to Swan Lake.
The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has approved two feasibility studies to evaluate the long term strategies for the area, which has dealt with major flooding for years.
Last year, four plans were presented to prevent further flooding.
Those included removing water from the lake, diverting water upstream of the lake, removing homes from the lake or containing floodwater within the lake.
Tuesday night the county commission approved studies to look into diverting or removing some of the water.
The Washoe County Engineer said the five miles of barriers in place around the lake will stay up through spring of 2021 when they will reevaluate. He said they don't want them up longer than they need to be due to lake levels declining fast.
The Washoe County Engineer said last week, they did take down one tier of barriers along Arkansas Drive that were stacked upon each other because residents asked for it, for aesthetic reasons.
