“We've been trying to go over this lake inch by inch to see if we can discover some clues,” said Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Bob Harmon. It’s been seven days and Sunni Dicarrillo is still nowhere to be found. Search crews continue to scour Silver Lake looking for the missing 17-year-old. On Sunday, search crews once again hit the water full force. On Saturday the wind made it too difficult to use dogs and sonar, so they couldn't use those tools to search. On Sunday however, conditions were better and now officials are looking to add a new step to the process.
As boats continue to search Silver Lake for Dicarrillo, the Washoe County Search and Rescue Team is looking to send divers into the water. “As we get a more specific location, we will try some divers and see if that will help,” said Harmon.
The Reno teen was reported missing just one week ago. Law enforcement says that witnesses saw Dicarillo at the lake. A kayak and paddle he owned were found at the location. The sheriff's office says divers tested the lake for visibility early during the search. But the divers were able to do very little actual searching.“Debris in the water, from the sage brush to the fencing to barbed wire, makes it a difficult lake to put a diver in,” said Harmon. Because of the lake bed's condition the divers will go over areas in a very specific manner.“If we can basically find a very specific area where we can drop a driver straight down, they can feel around,” said Harmon.
As many as 4 boats are on the lake at one time right now. Sonar and search dogs continue to scan the lake. The growth in the lake however is making things more difficult.“There are loved ones of this young man who are going through a difficult time. Who need answers. We hope that we can provide those answers. We are going to keep trying, that I can promise you,” said Harmon.
The sheriff's office says the cold is also made the search more difficult. They search is expected to continue on Monday weather permitting.
