Even with heavy storms dumping continuous snow over the past several days, this isn’t something you see every day in Fallon.
At Naval Air Station Fallon, aircrews usually take to the skies regardless of weather, but the recent snowfall has kept planes on the ground while crews stay busy behind the scenes.
Snow may be falling in Northern Nevada, but the mission mindset at Naval Air Station Fallon never takes a snow day.
According to Naval Air Station Fallon in an online post, aircrews would love to be in the skies training, flying, and sharpening the edge of naval aviation, but winter storms have grounded flights temporarily.
“Safety always comes first, and when conditions aren’t right, we keep our aircraft on deck,” the post said. “While the runways may be quiet, our Sailors and civilian teammates are hard at work behind the scenes clearing snow, maintaining aircraft, and ensuring we’re ready to launch the moment the weather breaks.”
The post emphasized that Northern Nevada weather may slow operations, but it does not stop the mission. Residents are reminded to stay safe and warm while crews maintain readiness for flight.
