WCSD Offers 'Family Access Day' for Potential College Students

Washoe County School Police says an unlabeled tube that contained the metal gallium caused authorities to briefly evacuate Billinghurst Middle School Friday morning.

School police tell us that since the metal appears silver in color, authorities thought the tube may have been filled with mercury, so they evacuated the school as a precaution. A HAZMAT team was called in to investigate and once it was determined to be safe, students returned to class.

School police say the enclosed tube was brought to a science class.

No one was hurt. Â
