Twelve recruits graduated from the Reno Fire Department Academy on Friday.
Prior to being hired, the RFD recruits had to go through a written test, physical agility test and extensive interview process before they were offered a position in the recruit academy.
During the 17-week academy, the recruits were trained on all aspects of operating as a firefighter with RFD including firefighting, vehicle extrication, wildland fire operations, water rescue, technical rescue, hazardous materials calls, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and other skills.
Following graduation, the recruits will transition to probationary firefighters for RFD working alongside other Reno Firefighters, during which time they will continue to learn and develop their skills.
