Two Berkeley residents are dead after a head-on crash on SR 89 near Cabin Creek Road in Truckee Tuesday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol says a 2014 Ford Fusion was heading north on SR 89 when it crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a 2015 Freightliner, driven by a 45-year-old Fernley man.

Both people inside the Fusion were killed – a 20-year-old man and his passenger, a 19-year-old woman.

No names have been released.

The Fernley driver suffered minor injuries.

CHP says it appears alcohol and drugs weren’t involved.

CHP is still asking for witnesses to come forward to help them in their investigation.
