Two men were sentenced Tuesday after they were convicted of first-degree murder.
Both men are from Chiloquin, Oregon. They were each convicted on one count of First-Degree Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, one count of Attempted Robbery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, and a count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Hutchinson and Jackson were convicted of shooting 37-year-old Christopher Dressler from Hungry Valley, during a robbery attempt in October 2019 in the 600 block of California Avenue.
The pair then tried to rob a group of men near John Champion Park.
In Tuesday's sentencing hearing, Hutchinson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the murder conviction. A consecutive 8 to 20-year sentence was imposed for use of a deadly weapon. For the attempted robbery conviction, a consecutive 8 to 20-year term was also imposed; for the felon in possession of a firearm, a 2 to 5-year consecutive sentence was ordered.
Jackson was sentenced to an aggregate of 36 years to life in prison.
UPDATE, June 2021:
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office announced two men were found guilty for first degree murder after a shooting in October 2019.
Officials said 24-year-old Daniel Shadow Bear Hutchinson and 55-year-old Justin Tyron Jackson, both from Chiloquin, Oregon, were convicted on one count of first degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and one count of attempted robbery with use of a deadly weapon.
They are accused of shooting 37-year-old Christopher Dressler of Sparks during a robbery attempt.
Each defendant faces a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 17, 2021.
The case began on October 11, 2019 when the Reno Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Downtown Reno.
The Robbery Homicide Unit Detectives were called to investigate and quickly determined the victim was shot during a robbery in a vacant lot on California Avenue.
Two suspects detained hear the area by officers were identified as Hutchinson and Jackson.
They were accused of being involved in an assault with a deadly weapon incident earlier in the day involving two different victims. The pair then went to the Club Cal Neva casino where they met the shooting victim. Dressler did not know them, but walked with them to the area on California Avenue, where the two suspect attempted to rob him.
According to the DA's Office, Hutchinson shot Dressler in the torso and fled the area, along with Jackson.Â
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Hutchinson and Jackson were arrested a short while later.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty and the case was taken to trial.
UPDATE, October 2019:
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office says they've identified the victim of a shooting that happened in the 600 block of California Avenue last Friday.
They said 37-year-old Christopher Dressler of Sparks was pronounced dead at the hospital later that evening.
The exact cause and manner of death is pending investigation, they said.

The Reno Police Department is investigating a shooting that was reported just before 3 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of California Avenue.
When they arrived they found one victim of the shooting.
The victim later succumbed to his injures and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Reno Police are looking for two individuals in connection with the shooting.
One person is the shooter and the other person is possibly involved. They are described as a white male and a Hispanic male.
The shooter is described to be wearing a red shirt, possibly the white male.
Reno Police believe all three knew each other.
Detectives with the Robbery Homicide Unit responded and have taken over the investigation.Â
The identity of the deceased is not being released as next of kin have not been notified.
