The Fremont Cannon will be at stake once again this Saturday as the Nevada Wolf Pack takes on the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels at Mackay Stadium.The winner of the game not only receives bragging rights for another year, but of course, will receive the (John C.) Fremont Cannon. The cannon is the heaviest and most expensive trophy in college football and students we spoke to want to keep it blue."When we lost the cannon two years ago, very, very sad experience for me and it was very hard but I'm glad we got it back and I'm really hoping we'll keep it this year,” says Jessica Salsman, ASUN Vice President.Nevada has beaten UNLV to keep the cannon in nine of the last ten games and has won 24 of the 40 matches played between the two schools.Nevada seniors say they take pride in being part of the Reno school’s recent football dominance because winning makes the rivalry feel stronger.While they say this week school spirit must not be forgotten, this is also a time to show camaraderie with our sister university."We do remind student to be positive about us, talk about our school and why we're a great school and not why we think we're better than them…All your friends and all the Wolf Pack fans around you cheering for one sole purpose and that's to do well, you really feel spirit at that moment,” says senior Zachary Brounstein.Beat UNLV activities continue all week with a car smash happening Wednesday at 11 a.m. in front of the student union.
