Valentina joined the KTVN team in August of 2019. She graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she served as a multimedia journalist in English and Spanish for the Met Report and Noticiero TVMet. She arrived in Denver in 2012 with the goal of furthering her education and getting as much broadcast journalism experience as possible.
Along the way she worked with a variety of broadcast outlets in the Denver area, including FOX 31, Rocky Mountain PBS and KUVO. During her time with Rocky Mountain PBS, Valentina was a part of Insight with John Ferrugia, an Emmy nominated investigative show. Her work as an editor for “Rescuing the Innocent” granted her a nomination at the Heartland Emmy Awards and an Award of Excellence from the Colorado Broadcasters Association.
She credits the many mentors who took her under their wings for the many skills she’s gained as a multimedia journalist. Being able to cover a story as the reporter, photographer, writer and editor gives an incredible amount of control over the finished product. Doing it all is also exhausting at times, but very rewarding.
One of Valentina’s favorite childhood memories from her native Brasil is watching her mom report the news on local television. Mom devoted 25 years to journalism and that dedication was motivation for Valentina to set her sights on all that and more.
Valentina says viewers in Reno have been very welcoming to her, and even though it’s obvious when she speaks that “she’s not from around here,” her genuine interest and affection for the people and the stories she gets to do is also obvious.
If you see Valentina around, don’t hesitate to say hi. If you have any story ideas, tips, or cake recipes, you can call her directly at (775) 762-5283 or email her at vbonaparte@ktvn.com
