A video of a man traveling around Reno is going viral. It seems like a joke, but tourism officials say the video is good exposure for the city.
In a recent series of comedic videos, Ryan O'Flanagan from funnyordie.com details his trips to U.S. cities. In his most recent clip, O’Flanagan describes some of the biggest little city’s greatest offerings.
The video was first posted Monday morning, and has accumulated more than 1.7 million views on Facebook alone. Ben McDonald, communications manager with RSCVA, says the video helps with publicity.
"Even though he was kind of poking fun at a few spots, I don't think there was anything bad in there, I think people see that and go, oh I didn't know the National Bowling Stadium was there, or I didn't know the Automobile Museum was there, or Greater Nevada field what's that," says McDonald.
The video may bring attention to some of Reno’s best locations, but McDonald says there's more to northern Nevada that's never mentioned.
"Get him on a trail or something, get him up over on Lake Tahoe, see some of north lake, but you know, you can't pick these things," says McDonald.
Locals agree, saying downtown Reno only scratches the surface of all that there is to do.
Garret Dunn is a local who said, “There's a lot of outdoor stuff that you might not know about, just kind of hidden places that you can go to."
JoAnna Manfredonia is also a local and she said, “Artown in July, my favorite time of the year, and looking at the beautiful sierra, I love it every day."
