Virginia City held their Memorial Day Parade, Saturday afternoon. But they did so in a way that kept everyone safe, with state regulations in mind.
"We didn't have any walking groups, no one passing out candy. No one sitting on the board walk, probably one of our largest. It was almost an hour long of people from Northern Nevada coming up, decorating their cars, turning their headlight on," says Deny Dotson, Tourism Director for Virginia City, Nevada.
Dotson says along with doing a cars and bikes only parade, they asked people to practice social distancing and to follow safety protocols.
"We have hand washing stations, we have hand sanitizer stations throughout the boardwalk. And the businesses are also wearing their masks, and they're at their 50% occupancy," says Dotson.
Although this wasn't a traditional parade, organizers say they had to do something to honor our fallen soldiers.
Attendees shared in that very same sentiment.
"Some people lost their lives protecting us, so we're really thankful for that. It's just a celebration and a memory of those who we've lost," says Alex Lazerda.
