The Volunteers of America have a new temporary overflow shelter that houses around 40 homeless people.
The organization's former overflow shelter had to be closed in February, after a thief stripped the copper wires in the building and caused the space to flood.
Regional Director Pat Cashell says the new space is a big help, but it is still not enough.
"The building that we lost held 100 to 110 people," he said. "So we're definitely short."
Cashell says that while the Volunteers of America looked to replace their overflow shelter, both Northern Nevada Hopes and the Reno Sparks Gospel Mission helped house displaced clients over the last few months. Cashell hopes that a new space will help free up space at those organizations.
"We're going to do everything in our power to find that new building so we can get everybody off the streets at night,"Â Cashell said.
Cashell is asking the community for help finding a location for a permanent overflow shelter. You can contact the Volunteers of America at 322-7143,
