On Sunday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office received several calls regarding four dirt bikers illegally riding their vehicles on the property of Gator Swamp Park.
The sheriff's office says on Sunday, a concerned citizen took a video of the bikers riding through the park. Within four hours of that video being posted online, a Facebook tip led to their identities.
While the Washoe County Sheriff's Office says no arrests have been made, they are working with the parents of the riders.
All four bikers are 18 years and younger and they could face misdemeanor charges on destruction of property as well as the restriction to use a motorized vehicle within 1,000 ft. of a residence.
Andy Mink, who works with Washoe County Community Services Department, says the exact cost of the damage is unknown at this time but maintenance crews will need to spend some extra time doing watering and seeding on the affected area.
“Takes away from what they could be doing at other parks or even at that park, making sure they're as good as possible,” says Mink.
Matt Eck is a concerned parent who lives in the area. His son practices football at Gator Swamp Park, and he doesn’t want to see his son roll an ankle on the field.
“Dirt bikes cause a lot of damage from the grass stand point, we're sitting here with the practice fields and so from that stand point, kids stepping in ruts, turning ankles, things like that, that's no good for practices, says Eck.”
