The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees is scheduled to discuss the amended final 2019-20 fiscal year budget at a public meeting early Tuesday afternoon.Â
The 2 p.m. meeting will be held at WCSD's Central Administration Building at 425 East Ninth Street in Reno.Â
The district is required by state law to pass a budget, sometimes not knowing every funding detail.Â
Board members had to wait until the current Nevada legislative session ended to go over the specific details. Â
WCSD's final tentative budget was adopted by Trustees on May 28, 2019.Â
The WCSD adds, "The last day of the Legislature was June 3, 2019. Because of significant legislative action and appropriations made since the filing of the Final Budget, we are extremely pleased to report that we can now file a structurally balanced budget. This is historic since the District has had a structural imbalance since before the Great Recession. Certainly, much of the credit for our balanced budget is due to the recent decisions and commitment of this legislature and Governor to increase resources to the State Distributive School Account funding that supports our District’s General Fund."
Last year, the district got $7,200 per pupil last year, and the Department of Education gave them a minimum estimate of $8,000 per pupil for this year. That's how they structured this budget.
