Showers and thunderstorms are likely through at least Monday evening, and fire starts can’t be ruled out. The storms are moving along the jet stream, which is quickly propelling them from east to west. While the storms are producing heavy rain at times, the speed of the storms lowers the flood risk but also increases the fire threat.
The storms on Monday are leaving multiple lightning strikes behind the showers as the main storm moves east. Hopefully there won’t be any new fire starts, but that can’t be ruled out. Thankfully, for the most part, the lightning is striking in areas that just received rain. The trick is to get the lightning lined up perfectly with the rain itself.
Storms like to develop along boundaries and the jet stream. In fact, the showers and storms are forming on the backside of the low along the jet stream Monday afternoon. As the low moves south on Tuesday, the showers and storms will move south as well. There is a chance for showers and storms Monday night, but the lightning threat goes down thanks to the loss of daytime heating.
