According to Nevada’s state climatologist Dr. Baker Perry, Spring of 2026 was the hottest on record in Reno by nearly four degrees, and the second warmest for the state of Nevada since 1895. Spring includes the months of March, April, and May. While April and May were slightly above normal, March was the big winner with temperatures running 10.3 degrees above normal. This beats the old mark by 4.2 degrees for the entire state of Nevada.
Reno was not the only town to see the warmest spring on record this year, but so did Ely, Eureka, and Las Vegas. The hottest temperature recorded was 110 degrees on may 12th at Laughlin Park.
A high of 106 degrees was also recorded in Laughlin on March 20th, breaking the March state record as well. Elko, Tonopah, and Winnemucca were within their top four hottest springs recorded.
It felt more like summer in March with temperatures running more than 10 degrees above normal on average statewide from March 12th-30th. Temperatures were also running more than ten degrees above normal from May 10th-12th.
According to Dr. Perry, records were broken statewide, with each of the long term climate stations breaking monthly maximum temperature records during the spring heat wave. Reno hit 88 degrees on March 20th, breaking both the daily and monthly record at the airport.
