From the University of Nevada, Reno
The William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center at the University of Nevada, Reno has brought together, in one facility, a myriad of student-success services formerly scattered across six buildings on campus. On Wednesday, the community is invited to tour the building, which was designed to exemplify the University’s commitment to a culture of student success.
Â
"The William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center is one of the most tangible reflections of our University's daily efforts to assist, retain, engage and ultimately, to graduate students," University President Marc Johnson said. "This is a facility that will be of benefit to all of our students, from all walks of life, in their path toward earning a college degree." Â Â
The $44.5 million William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center was designed to foster diverse and truly engaged students by providing ample opportunities for interacting with faculty, staff and fellow students. The building is also meant to create synergy through flexibility in scheduling by offering evening hours to accommodate students’ schedules. Increased operations are a central focus to the building’s intent, as evening hours were not previously available for many of the services that relocated to the building.
Â
Services relocated to the student achievement center include the Writing Center, Math Center, Tutoring Center, Career Studio, Advising Center, Veterans' and Military Center, Disability Resource Center, Counseling Services and TRiO & McNair Scholars programs.
Â
In addition to these student services, the William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center includes two smart classrooms, a Meditation and Reflection Room, 14 student collaboration rooms, ample study space and a deli.Â
Â
Tour booklets will be available at each entrance, with the event starting at 2:30 p.m.Â
