The temperature dial is set on mild for the month of November. There is a good chance that temperatures will be above normal, and according to the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) there is a good chance the month will be drier than normal too.
Elsewhere, there is an equal chance for much of the country. While there is no correlation between November's weather and the winter outlook, according to the Climate Prediction there is a good chance the winter season will be warmer than normal too, and drier than normal in the Sierra.
The valley is a more challenging forecast with the CPC saying it could go either way. But there is also a strong signature that the winter season will be warmer than normal this year.
While this November and the winter season could both be dry, this does not always happen. For example, we did not get a lot of snow for our snowpack in the beginning of November, but it turned out to be a good snow season. Looking at Reno itself you can see some of the wettest winters correspond to drier Novembers and vice versa.
The fact is the weather is ever changing, is the main reason why a dry November does not lead to a dry winter. November is still a transition month.Â
