City of Reno Conducts Alcohol Compliance Check in South of Downtown

Nevada lawmakers are set to review a bill allowing underage drinkers to safely report alcohol-involved medical emergencies.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing Monday on Senate Bill 464.

The bill would remove criminal penalties for underage drinking if a request is made for emergency medical assistance. Current law makes it a misdemeanor crime for an underage person to possess or consume alcohol.

The Nevada Youth Legislature is bringing the bill forward and says it would prevent potentially fatal alcohol poisoning by removing the fear of criminal liability.

University of Nevada, Reno student body president Caden Fabbi said the bill would help protect university students who can experiment with drugs and alcohol often for the first time in college. (AP)
