Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell passed away September 12, 2020. He was 74 years old. Honor Flight officials say he was battling health issues.

Nancy Paulson, Carson City Manager, released this statement: "On behalf of Carson City, I extend condolences to the family of Mayor Bob Crowell who passed away earlier today.  The Mayor’s family, his fellow Board members, City staff and all the residents of Carson City will undoubtably miss him dearly."

Governor Sisolak also put out a statement saying, "Mayor Crowell truly embodied what it means to be a Nevadan. It would be impossible to overstate just how much he meant to his neighbors and all of the families in our state capital."

Reno Mayor Schieve sends her condolences saying in part, "He was one of my mentors, and a true inspiration not only for my political career, but my life in general. He is one of Nevada’s great leaders, and he will go down in history as a true Battle Born hero."

Mayor Crowell was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. Honor Flight Nevada says the Mayor helped kick off the first Vietnam Veteran honor flight in the country and his law firm made a large donation to make it happen.

He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009.  He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016.  Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees. 

The Mayor will pass by Reno to City Hall by motorcade before continuing on to FitzHenry’s Funeral Home. There will be a bell ceremony at Carson City Hall around 1 p.m.

Flags at City facilities will be flown at half mass for one week in his honor.

Lori Bagwell is the Mayor Elect. She said in a statement, "This is a very difficult time for Carson City.  The passing of our Mayor, Robert Crowell, is devastating for our citizens and for me as his successor.  I know that in a few short months I will have to fill some very big shoes and I can only hope I live up to his lofty expectations."

Mayor Crowell was married to his wife Susan for 49 years. He leaves behind four children and two grandchildren.
