You may not have needed a coat Wednesday, but with more rain and cold weather in the forecast now is the time to donate. If you missed the coat and luggage drive at NV Energy on Wednesday, the Municipal Court in Reno are still accepting donations.
"We just want to be able to stock up on these items and be ready to help folks out when they are in the cold," said Sandy Isham of Volunteers of America.Â
There is a demand for coats this year and Volunteers of America are thankful for any help they can get.
"This is really the first major clothing drive we're trying to do," said Chief Marshal Justin Roper from the Reno Municipal Court.Â
Behind security you'll find a couple black bins decorated with snowflakes and glittery ribbons in the courthouse. There you can drop off clean, gently used winter clothing like hats, gloves, coats, and socks. All of the items will go towards Volunteers of America. Socks in particular are a big help.
"So during the winter if their feet get wet we love to have socks on hand," said Isham.Â
We were able to find a couple pairs of socks in one of the employee bins and one bin full of coats and other items at the courthouse. But they need more.Â
"We work with a lot of unfortunate people on a daily basis and our job isn't just law enforcement, it's community aid too," said Roper.Â
You have until the middle of November to donate. If you don't want to spend time going through security, you can hand over your items to one of the security officers and they will gladly take them for you.
NV Energy is happy to bring warm clothing to those who need it too. This is the second year for their clothing drive and the first time they are accepting suitcases as well. The drive wrapped up Wednesday afternoon.Â
"The goal for us is to be a resource and help raise awareness that it's really easy to give to others. That's really the goal for us," said Katie Nannini from NV Energy.Â
Which will hopefully lead to full bins and warm hearts this winter season.Â
