Crews Knock Down Five-Acre Fire Near Robb And I-80

The Reno Fire Department has released more details on the brush fire that started between Robb Drive and Sharlands Avenue on Tuesday evening.

They said it was near I-80 going westbound and sparked just before 6 p.m.

It was nearly four acres and was fully contained within an hour. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District provided assistance with the fire.

Sharlands Terrace Apartments and the Silver Creek complex were threatened but no structures were damaged and there were no injuries.

Residents are advised that they will possibly see smoke early in the morning. Reno Fire says crews will monitor the affected area throughout the night and through tomorrow until deemed safe.

A single westbound lane on I-80 was closed for about 2 hours, as well as an on ramp at Robb Drive.

Two power poles were damaged and NV Energy responded to assess the situation. Power outages in the area may still occur.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Two subjects were reported leaving the area at the time.
