AND CENTRAL LYON COUNTIES AND EASTERN CARSON CITY WILL EXPIRE AT 245
PM PDT...

The storm which prompted the warning has moved out of the area.
Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire. A new Severe
Thunderstorm Warning may be needed.


The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Storey County in western Nevada...
Southern Washoe County in western Nevada...

* Until 315 PM PDT.

* At 231 PM PDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Lockwood, or
11 miles east of Reno, moving north at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, fencing and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Reno, Sparks, Lockwood, Wingfield Springs, Damonte Ranch, Northwest
Reno, Pleasant Valley, Caughlin Ranch, Reno-Tahoe International
Airport, Hidden Valley, Spanish Springs, Mustang, Nws Reno, Nv 341
At Washoe-Storey Co Line, and Sun Valley.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued an Airport Weather
Warning for...

Reno-Tahoe International Airport /RNO/.

The following weather hazards are expected:

Wind gusts 50 knots or higher.
Cloud to ground lightning within 10 nm of the airport.
Hail of 1/2 inch or greater.
Torrential rainfall.

...THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN SIERRA
AND THE SIERRA FRONT THROUGH 300 PM PDT...

At 1253 PM PDT, showers and thunderstorms are developing along the
eastern Sierra and Sierra Front south of Highway 50. Thunderstorm
coverage will expand northward through the afternoon.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Reno, Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Fallon, Tahoe City, Graeagle,
Kings Beach, Plumas Eureka State Park, Sonora Pass, Gardnerville,
Virginia City, Boca Reservoir, Pyramid Lake, Lee Vining, Twin Lakes,
Lahontan Reservoir, Incline Village, Blairsden, Doyle, and Alpine
Meadows.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

If on or near a lake, be prepared to get out of the water and move
indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to
10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you
are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter
now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

THIS EVENING FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND STRONG OUTFLOW WINDS FOR THE
SIERRA FRONT...

* CHANGES...No changes.

* Affected Area...Fire Weather Zone 420 Northern Sierra Front
including Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe,
Western Lyon, and Far Southern Lassen Counties, Fire Weather
Zone 421 Southern Sierra Front including Alpine, Northern
Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties.

* Thunderstorms...Thunderstorm coverage and dry lightning
potential will become more widespread by the afternoon into the
evening.

* Outflow Winds...Gusty and erratic thunderstorm outflow winds,
even well away from rain cores. Gusts to around 50 mph
possible today and Friday afternoon.

* Impacts...Lightning can create new fire starts and may combine
with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in
size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry
vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for
updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
