The Drone Store in Sparks is about to launch a whole new recreational sport here. It may look like child's play but it's serious business for Justin Woodcock.
"We are the only fpv (first Person View) drone store in the country!" Woodcock says. "And we have the only indoor-outdoor racing track in the world!"
He says the sport is growing in leaps and bounds and becoming a profitable sport where winnings range from $1,000 to $100,000.Â
"And the Worlds are in Dubai next month and the winner there gets a $1 million!"
"It's a feeling you just can't get doing anything else," Woodcock says while flying with goggles that give you the First Person View of what the drone sees.
"You put on the goggles and you are in the cockpit and you can go 60 to 130 to 140 miles an hour. It's like real life Star Wars!"
The Drone Store will open on East Glendale in Sparks Saturday at 10 a.m.
While they generally have you fly your own drones, they will have a number of them on display and be offering you a chance to fly them.
