The Eureka County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) is reporting that on Sunday close to 9 a.m. the ECSO, Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), Carlin Fire & Rescue, Beowawe Fire, Crescent Valley Fire and Eureka County EMS (CV) responded to a semi crash on I-80 East at Mile Marker 270.
They say the crash was between two semi-trucks. One rear ended the other and there was a breach in the tank of the truck rear ended that then spilled sulfiric acid on the roadway.
NHP says both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors, although driver error or distraction is suspected.
They say this crash resulted in a hazmat situation.
ECSO says crews are currently on scene and will remain there until cleanup is complete.
They say NHP is investigating the crash.
ECSO says I-80 in the area has one eastbound lane open at this time.
Roads are expected to be opened around 6 p.m.
