The pandemic has created a new opportunity for scammers, looking to go after unemployed people. More than half of the victims targeted by these employments scams, didn't have jobs at the time.

The top three scams right now are related to online shopping, employment and stimulus. They come in all shapes and forms, it could be a text, email or even a call.

"Employment scams are the riskiest scams, in other words, people that get taken, they fall prey and lose up to $1,000, that's what the median average loss is," says Tim Johnston, with the Better Business Bureau.

He says it's important to be cautious sharing any type of personal information or payments. 14 million people are exposed to employment scams and $2 billion is lost every year.

Johnston also says research is key. Make sure the job you are looking at is also posted on the company's website.

He also says reshipping is a popular scam right now.

"Reshipping scams are typically reshipping items purchased illegally using someone's credit card and you are a part of it, shipping the product somewhere else," says Johnston.Â
