A Fallon family is remembering a woman who was killed Monday afternoon. Churchill County Deputies believe a man named Larry Small shot and killed her just after 3 p.m. at the Churchill County Cemetery in Fallon.
Nevada Highway Patrol troopers located Small on I-80 in Humboldt County and after following his vehicle for a short time, they say small got out of his truck and shot himself. He was pronounced dead on scene.
We talked with a close friend of the victim who didn't want to be identified, so he showed us the cross the woman gave to him as a present and he talked about his memories of her.
While investigators are still looking into the case, we have decided not to release the victim's name.
“She became kind of like a mother or a sister to me. And she gave me this cross of her dad's about 6 to 8 months ago and it's definitely a shocker,”
said Scott, a family friend of the woman.
That's how Scott describes the woman, who's life was taken in Fallon on Monday afternoon. Now he is remembering the woman he knew for so long and he wants people to hear about the kind of person she was.
"She was one of the happiest people I've ever known. When her face was in the dirt, her eyes were at the sky. She was happy,” said Scott.
He talked about one of her favorite spots that he described as her safe haven, like the Churchill County Cemetery.
"She was always coming out here to clear her mind. She used to go up to the cross on Rattlesnake and just look over the town and watch the sunset."
Scott said that several people close to her were concerned before she left Nevada to go to Nebraska. He says that she was back in Fallon for personal matters.
"People were worried about her because of certain physical battles that she was dealing with. She was worried herself there for a while,” said Scott.
Scott told us that the woman was the ex-wife of the suspect, Larry Small.
And while Monday's tragedy leaves him and other close friends of the woman in shock, he says that her sweet nature will always be remembered.
"She was caring, if she only had a dime in her pocket, it was yours if you needed it,” said Scott.
Scott had some parting words for his friend.
"We're all going to miss you. And trust me, you're not going to be forgotten,” said Scott.
The Churchill County Sheriff's Office has not yet released the woman's identity to the public. We will bring you any new details as they become available.
