FDA: Sprouts Spinach Recalled Due to Listeria Contamination

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says there's been a recall of Sprouts Farmers Market frozen cut leaf spinach due to potential contamination.

They said the conventional and organic 16 ounce bags potentially have Listeria monocytogenes, which is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems.

They said although healthy people may have short-term symptoms, like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, a Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

The FDA says the spinach was manufactured by National Frozen Foods of Oregon.
