This week's Someone 2 Know tells us his life has been filled with rich and varied experiences.
After growing up in northern Nevada, Buddy Frank launched three separate and successful careers - one of them at KTVN 2 News in the 1970's.
We met up with Buddy at Reno’s National Automobile Museum, where he shared some old photos with us. On his phone, Frank keeps pictures of the time he worked as a reporter and anchor for 2 News - he likes reminiscing about those days.
“Everybody likes to look back and you can see all the changes."
Buddy Frank had a career in broadcast journalism that spanned from 1973 to 1983.
"When I started at Channel two, we were shooting with 16-millimeter film that we had to develop and splice."
Buddy was even there the day 2 News bought its first live truck.
"It was the first live truck in all of Reno, yeah, Channel 2 had it. Lee Hirschland was the owner and he always liked technology."
Buddy also became the managing editor at 2 News working side-by-side with then news director Ed Pearce. “Yeah, we had a great crew and a lot of the people who worked for us went on to bigger and better things."
Buddy himself went on to form a family - plus, a 30-year career in gaming, specifically slot operations.
"Various places; Fitzgerald’s, which is gone now, but also Atlantis which is wonderful and the Eldorado which is now the largest gaming company in the world."
Frank says gambling and casinos often get a bad rap. After decades in the biz - he sees things differently. "If you're careful, you can gamble for very little money, get a great deal on food - some of the best ever, have a lot of entertainment, develop a lot of friends."
And then, Buddy Frank moved to Reno's National Automobile Museum. "Took a consultancy for about a year in between executive directors and worked here, which was a challenge during COVID but I love automobiles."
Not only does Buddy love cars, he can tell you almost anything you want to know about them, their history, and their connection to Reno. "Idlewild Park was pretty much built to celebrate the trans-continental highway, so we have a rich history of automobiles in this community."
Buddy is now happy to split his time between his beloved grandbabies and the classic car collection.
"I love the museum here, so I'll probably finish my days as a volunteer."
