A devotion to sports and fitness brought them together, and for a dozen years our Someones 2 Know have been running a successful gym in Reno - training athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

And now, amid the coronavirus shutdown they are offering their specialized skills to everyone - via the internet - at no charge.

Meet JJ Milan and Carlos Madrid;

"40 kick-backs, each leg!”

Giving instructions into his phone, while going live on Instagram, and simultaneously recording with an iPad, we see Carlos training his wife Brianne (a part-time trainer, herself) inside an empty gym.

"Good job, good job, good job."

Co-owners Carlos Madrid and his business partner JJ Milan, are training anyone who wants to follow along - for free.

"We have the access to our facility, you know I can bring my wife in an any time and run her though these videos, me and JJ can make videos,” explains Carlos.

JJ and Carlos are co-owners of a Reno gym called FAST-NV.  The name is an acronym;

"It stands for Functional Athletic Sports Training," JJ tells us.

For these guys - their love of sports started early;

"We grew up here, JJ went to Wooster, I went to Reed,” Carlos shares, “We've been participating in sports since we were ten, 11, 12."

"I started out in athletics pretty much my whole life, played college football here in Nevada, ended up playing a little in the NFL,” recalls JJ.

For Carlos it was baseball - from little league to the minor leagues. The business partnership began 12 years ago as a way to train other athletes.

"They want guidance to get where they wanna be and we can show them the way to get there,” says JJ.

"We feel like everyone can be an athlete,” expands Carlos, “Business owners, stay-at-home moms, all sorts of people and that really branched us off and created this hybrid - athletic training, body building slash weight-loss facility that we have now."

Growing in size over the years, FAST now occupies a big warehouse-sized space, that until the coronavirus shutdown, was seeing 3-400 people per week.

"You know, we've probably taken an 80 to 90 percent hit,” mulls JJ, “Probably more.”

Despite the financial loss, FAST is offering free, daily trainings on social media during the pandemic;

"It's been pretty amazing to see people that really - it's a part of their daily routine and part of their mental wellness program,” observes Carlos.

The business partners are like-minded in their positivity; "Keep doing what we're doing, we're not gonna - never jump ship or anything like that, but keep good attitudes, good energy and stay happy about it,” smiles JJ.
