More than 30,000 students in the Washoe County School District qualify for free or reduced lunch. Â
During the summer months, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada partners with several organizations to make sure children in Northern Nevada don't go hungry. The Summer Meals Program provides lunch for thousands of kids all over the region when school is out.
"So many people join together to make this happen," said Jocelyn Lantrip of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.  "It's us, the Boys & Girls Clubs, the City of Sparks, City of Reno, Washoe County, even the park system.  We all work together to make sure these kids get fed. The libraries are involved now too so it's really a community effort to make sure these meals are available to kids."
Participation in the program usually dips in the month of July and the Food Bank is reminding residents how easy it is for kids and teens to take advantage of the program. There's no paperwork involved, you just need to show up at one of the locations in Reno, Sparks or Fernley.
"Anyone between the ages of one and eighteen can eat at any one of these sites," Lantrip said. "It's completely easy; all you have to do is be a kid, show up, and eat on site - Â that's it. There isn't any paperwork to do, it's open to everybody and we just want to make sure that children get these meals."
The program runs every weekday through August 9th. Â
