Jon Yuspa is not only the founder of Honor Flight Nevada, but the go-to guy for donations in this area in many ways. Just this past week a local company came across a load of suitcases that were just a tad bit irregular. They didn't want to sell them and they were tagged for destruction when someone thought to call Yuspa.
"Of course we'll take them," he said. "Do you know how many homeless Vietnam Veterans we have in our community? And I know of a lot of other places they could be used."
So, $150,000 worth of brand new suitcases were taken to two storage units in south Reno.
"We even had a truck company donate a flat bed truck to move them for us," Yuspa said.
Now he's doling them to the organizations that will get them to those who need them.
"We're partnering with the DAV (Disabled American Vets) the Vietnam Veterans Association, a couple of women's shelters here and the Ronald McDonald House to get them where they'll be used. And they are really needed."
Sometimes it's just knowing the right person..that can make the biggest difference in helping others.
