Fourth of July began with a run for many Reno area residents. The annual Freedom Run, put on by Reno Running and Fitness took place this morning in Idlewild Park. Whether runners started their morning off with a 5K, 10K or fun run race, they were all out there supporting a good cause.Â
Today's event was put on to raise money for the Ridge House in Reno. The Ridge House offers re-entry program for former offenders in Nevada and veterans trying to get back on their feet. Their Director of Development, Sharon Nipp, told us that they "help people re-integrate positively into society so they don't re-offend."Â
The Ridge House is a non-profit organization and the Fun Run is their biggest fundraiser of the year, raising over 25% of their budget, most of which Sharon Nipp says goes to the veterans they support.Â
