The operator of the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant for the first time is removing fuel from a cooling pool at one of three reactors that melted down in the 2011 disaster.
Nearly nine years after the 2011 triple meltdowns at the plant, the radioactive water continues to accumulate as water used to keep the cores cool leaks from the damaged reactors.
The 10th anniversary of the disaster will be in March next year.
