Funeral Home Lost After Fire on Sullivan Lane

A Sparks funeral home is destroyed after a fire on Friday afternoon.

According to a press release, the Sparks Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Walton's Funeral Home on Sullivan Lane, just before 4 p.m. The first arriving officer reported there was fire on the outside of the building and moving into the eves.

All people were out of the building and safe, although one civilian was evaluated by REMSA medics. There were no injuries to fire personnel.

Sparks Fire responded 5 engines, 2 ladder trucks, and 27 total personnel. Reno Fire gave mutual aid with 2 engines, a ladder truck, and 16 personnel at the scene.

Reno Fire and Storey County also provided engines to cover calls within the City of Sparks during the incident.

The building will be a total loss. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. 


Crews are on scene of a structure fire at Walton's Sparks Funeral home located at 1745 Sullivan Lane near Greenbrae Drive. 

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. Firefighters are working to contain the flames, which have caused heavy smoke in the area. 

Officials say the roof has partially collapsed.

Officers say Sullivan Lane is closed northbound and southbound from Oddie to Wedekind.

Please stay clear of the area if at all possible for the time being.

Authorities say there were no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.
