Carson City deputies say a Gardnerville man is now charged with driving his car into a Sportsman's Warehouse and hitting six people earlier this month.

Deputies say Ronald Wilkerson was booked into the Carson City Jail on charges of reckless driving with substantial bodily harm, driving on a suspended driver’s license and failure to maintain a travel lane.

Deputies say on Friday, January 15, Wilkerson allegedly drove a Toyota Prius through the east side doors of the store.

In total, deputies say he hit six people, but five people were taken to area hospitals.

Deputies say they later learned that Wilkerson allegedly left the DMV on Wright Way and turned west, going through the stop sign at Stewart Street, where he then went over the curb into the parking lot and into the store.

Deputies say the doors happened to be opening when the car entered the building, at which point Wilkerson allegedly struck three people walking out of the building, and then struck three more near the cash register.

They say Wilkerson briefly stopped the car then accelerated away, continuing westbound inside the store and coming to rest against the west interior wall of the store.

Deputies say Wilkerson had been denied his driver’s license by DMV and had been at the DMV to dispute the suspension just prior to this incident.
