In a press release, the Board of Directors for the Great Reno Balloon Race came to the decision to suspend the competition for the 2019 event.
Details included:
The event cannot safely maintain the required safety perimeters around the targets on the field due to increasing attendance
Remaining targets where they could possibly secure the perimeters are in the vicinity of power lines, making it unsafe for the balloons to be in the area.
Despite the competition being suspended, the release states that new entertainment lineups and the addition of a third Dawn Patrol showing on that Friday is something attendants can look forward to.
The event will be from September 6th through September 8th.
