After twenty years of service Sergeant Kevin Rorie couldn't hold back tears as the Lassen County Sheriff's Department said goodbye.

"They would call me a friend, brother and mentor," said Rorie. "I'm leaving these guys, I hope they have a great career like I had, a great career."

Sgt. Rorie #106 says the emotion was for all the deputies and his entire law enforcement family that he no longer gets to work with. He also expressed his gratitude for surviving his career and grief for the officers who did not.

"We care about what we do and every law enforcement officer hasn't had the opportunity to go home and I'm blessed that I got to go home," said Rorie.

Sgt. Rorie tells Channel 2 News that his final patrol shift was last week and his law enforcement family surprised him with the special send off. He will officially retire in June.

"I'm sure we'll still see him around town," said Sheriff Dean Growdon. "I'm sure he'll still be stop by, but just seeing him, the friendship we've developed, that bond will be the most challenging thing."
