Thousands of people packed into Rancho San Rafael Park Friday morning as part of the first day of the Great Reno Balloon Race.
The day started before the sun ever rose. It was the first Super Glow Show where 25 balloons glowed and shined, synchronized to music.
There are over 90 balloons at this year's race, including 14 special shaped balloons including a beagle, a Japanese cat, chili peppers, and even an old lady in a shoe.
The Star Wars balloon was 7-year-old Owen's favorite.
“Because there is a game of it and it looks really cool,” Owen said.
“My favorite balloon is the wagon,” said Davin, age 6.
“My favorite balloon is Smokey Bear,” said 7-year-old Hudson.
“My favorite balloon is Darth Vader,” said 5-year-old Tristan.
For others, though, past experiences at the balloon race is the deciding factor is choosing a favorite.
“One year they asked us to help with it,” said 8-year-old Kate. “So it is special to me.”
