A man was arrested for allegedly stealing a car and other items earlier this week.
On Thursday, dispatch from Rocklin Police Department contact the Chico California Highway Patrol (CHP) to tell them a car involved in a burglary was being pinged through a GPS device that was taken from the burglary.
Dispatch said the car was found at the I-80 eastbound Donner Rest area and the GPS device that was pinging was in a large yellow case.
Troopers from the Truckee CHP area were dispatched to the location of the ping and upon searching the parking lot, the troopers found a black Volkswagen Jetta with a large yellow case in plain sight, resting inside the car near the rear window.
The large yellow case fit the description of the stolen GPS device that was reported stolen.
Troopers also noticed the car was filled with what appeared to be electronics, construction tools and other person items.
Troopers contacted the driver who was asleep on the driver's side seat of the suspect car and asked him to come out.
The suspect driver, later identified as Manuel Salvador Cortes, exited and he was placed into custody.
As a trooper searched the suspect, they found a bag with a white substance resembling methamphetamine in the suspects front pocket.
The suspect tried to run away but was arrested again.
Upon searching the car, troopers found a sawed-off shotgun, numerous electronics, GPS devices, iPads, construction tools and other miscellaneous personal items.
The Rocklin Police Department was notified of the arrest and detectives from Rocklin Police responded to the Truckee area to take the stolen items.
While the suspect was being taken to jail, dispatch informed CHP that the car was an unreported stolen car and the owner of the car called to report it stolen.
Cortes was booked into the Nevada County Jail in Truckee.
