A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to shooting a teenage girl near Wedekind Road and Sutro Street earlier this year.Â
Originally, 32-year-old Carl Collins and someone else were arguing when Collins started to drive away and began shooting - one of the bullets went through the walls of an apartment building and hit a 14-year-old girl instead.Â
Collins was eventually arrested in Mexico and extradited to Reno.Â
Collins pleaded guilty to several gun-related charges and was sentenced a combined term of 25 years in prison with parole eligibility a minimum of 10 years.Â
The victim survived.
Collins had two prior violent felonies and was on parole out of California for battery with serious bodily injury at the time of the shooting.
UPDATE: The Reno Police Department says law enforcement arrested a suspect accused of shooting someone near Wedekind Road and Sutro Street on Monday.
Officials said there was a verbal altercation between the suspect and another subject on Monday in that area, and as they subject drove away, the suspect began shooting at them.
They said the suspect's bullets did not strike the subject, but continued past, hitting an apartment building, traveling through the walls and struck a teenage girl inside her home.
Officials said the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
The Reno Police Department said through the investigation, officers were able to obtain an arrest warrant. They said the suspect fled Reno and the US Marshals Service were contacted to help.
They said 31-year-old Carl Collins was arrested on Friday after he was located in New Mexico.

Original Story: The Reno Police Department says a woman is in the hospital after she was shot in the 1600 block of Wedekind Road on Monday afternoon.
Our crew on scene said authorities are looking for a suspect described as a black or Hispanic man with a slight build, wearing a black track suit with white sneakers and a black backpack.
The Reno Police Department says the shooting victim is recovering from being hit in the chest by a stray bullet. Officials said her injuries are not life threatening.
Officers were patrolling the area just before 5 p.m. when it's reported one of them heard gunshots.
Our crew on scene said a car was seen speeding away from the area. They said police were able to pull that car over at a nearby gas station, but it's unknown if the car was related to the incident.
Our crew on scene said six to seven shots were fired at an apartment complex in the area, but police are still looking for the shooter.
Later Monday evening, Reno Police received a tip that the suspect was still in the area. A SWAT team was deployed near the Silver Terrace Apartments.
Officials say they have not found the suspect yet, but there is no threat to the public.Â
