The Alpine County Sheriff's Office says a motorcyclist crashed into the East Fork of the Carson River on Friday.

They say the incident happened just before 11 a.m.

Officials say the crash took place on SR-89, a half-mile west of Monitor Pass.

They say the man driving the motorcycle lost control and fell over the edge, plummeting 35-40 feet into the river.

Officials say the man sustained moderate injuries, including an injury to his hip. He was then transported to Renown via CareFlight.

Authorities do not know if speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor.

The Eastern Alpine Fire Department, CHP and the East Fork Fire Protection District all responded to this incident.

Officials say a lot of motorcycle crashes happen in that area.
