Nevada Guard Holds 18th Annual Flag Day Ceremony

June 14th is both Flag Day and the birthday of the nation's Army.

The Nevada Guard held a ceremony in Carson City Tuesday morning to honor both the flag and the creation of the Army in 1775.

A resolution of the Continental Congress authorized 10 companies of riflemen on June 14, 1775.

Two years later, the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act and adopted the stars-and-stripes design as our nation's flag. In 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed an act of Congress designating June 14 as National Flag Day.

Flags at federal and state buildings were at half-staff - and will be that way through this coming Thursday, to honor the victims of the shooting in Orlando.
