New MidTown Music Venue Able To Host Smaller, Local Bands

Smaller bands often times have a hard time finding an appropriately sized venue to play at because many music halls such as Cargo and the Grand Sierra Resort are too large for them to fill.

Opening Thursday night in MidTown, "The Saint" has smaller bands excited for the opportunity to play.

"As a touring band or a local band, those are kind of your choices, either 1,000 seat venue or playing in a bar that holds 40 people. We trying to offer a mid-range venue," said Steve Widmer, local musician and General Manager of The Saint.

They are able to hold about 200 people inside the new venue.

Reno's location is often in the middle of bands traveling from San Francisco to Salt Lake City or Las Vegas to Portland, The Saint is hoping to bring in many bands that would have had to otherwise pass through.

"Some of the shows that aren't actually coming to Reno because there is big venue and it severs two purposes, a beer hall and also a music hall," said owner, Arthur Farley.

Farley says the need for this venue is not just good for Reno, but specifically good for MidTown.

"MidTown needed a central event space, gathering space. We have restaurants that have popped up and a couple of bars, but we don't have an event space."

The Saint is located in MidTown at 761 S. Virginia Street. They have a band playing tonight for their official grand opening at 9 p.m. Click here for more information.
