Crash on SR-89

A Porsche Macan went off SR-89 north of Cascade Road on Thursday, sending two people to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Authorities said the car left the roadway and was stopped by a large tree that prevented it from going farther down an embankment.

According to an online post from the California Highway Patrol South Lake Tahoe, the car’s safety features and the tree helped limit the severity of the crash.

SR-89 was closed for a time while the car was recovered by a tow truck.

In the post, officials used the incident as a reminder for drivers to slow down and drive within their skill level, especially in the area’s narrow and winding mountain roads.
