Update (11/25, 2:50 p.m.):

The Placer County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, in coordination with the CalFire NEU, has recovered the bodies of two men in the American River.

Officials are still working to positively identify the two men.

The bodies were first discovered by a drone operated by the Placer County Sheriff's Office, downriver from where the men were last seen.

The operation to retrieve the two men's bodies was very complex, taking place in an area of the river with rapids and strong currents.

They set up a pulley system of ropes, to which they attached the dive team boat. The team then used the boat to navigate to the middle of the river where the bodies were found.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two men have reportedly been swept away into the American River, and haven't yet resurfaced - triggering a search.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office says that at around 9:00 p.m. Saturday night, a call came in saying that the two men had gotten swept away at around 7:00 p.m. and had not been seen since.

An investigation has unveiled that three men went into the area of the American River to fish, where two of the men - both around 20 years old - got into the water.

One of the men was swept away, and the second man was also pulled in by the current while trying to help.

Placer County Sheriffs responded to the area of the report, and both helicopter and dive teams responded to do searches.

Because of the darkness and swift river conditions, the dive team was only able to conduct a search from the shoreline - unfortunately, the men were not found.

Placer County currently has 18 people searching and two K9 teams assisting with search and rescue operations, covering both sides of the river.

This is a developing story; we will provide more information as we receive it.
